WC820 (PD) Lot 50272 357 Mag Loads - Range Report

Projectile: Hensley & Gibbs #51 Gas Check, Tumble
Lubed (Loaded as cast) with Lee Liquid Alox, Pressed on Hornady
Gas Checks. Rounds were run through a
Lee Carbide Factory Crimp & Sizing die at the last step. Average
weight with gas check and LLA ~159 grains ~.
Powder: Surplus WC820 Pull Down (PD) Lot 50272
Notes: Loads were 14.0 grains of powder, 14.5, and
15.0. Both 14.5 and 15.0 indicated high pressure
signs by flat primers (no ridge flow, but evenly flat) and intermittent sticky
extraction. 14.0 had flat
primers with easy extraction.
My working
safe maximum load is: 14.0 Grains of
WC820PD Lot 50272 with the Hensley & Gibbs #51GC projectile (Heavy
crimp). Primers were Winchester Small
Pistol Magnum. Cases were 1X Fired R-P
Brass cases (same lot).
Weapon: Smith & Wesson Model 27-2, 5 Inch Barrel.
Range: 10 Yards, Standing

Best load
was with 14.5 grains (1.338”) of WC820PD Lot 50272. Higher charges had poorer groupings at 10,
15, and 20 yards.
